ŠKODA AUTO and Chakratec announce collaboration for kinetic charging

Chakratec, the kinetic energy storage pioneer and ŠKODA AUTO a.s., have announced a collaboration and presented the first-ever kinetic power charging of the all-new ŠKODA SUPERB IV.

ŠKODA AUTO DigiLab Israel Ltd commenced operation at the beginning of 2018 and has since made excellent connections in Tel Aviv’s local start-up and tech scene. Together with great partners, the spin-off of the Prague-based ŠKODA AUTO DigiLab – which was set up by ŠKODA AUTO and its Israeli importer, Champion Motors – has been developing a multitude of different digital mobility services as well as IT technologies including innovative hardware and software solutions.

As part of the collaboration, ŠKODA AUTO a.s. CEO Mr Bernhard Maier visited Chakratec HQ in Lod last week together with ŠKODA AUTO a.s. and ŠKODA AUTO DigiLab management team and demonstrated the first-ever kinetic charging of the all-new ŠKODA SUPERB IV.

In his key-note speech at the Smart Mobility Summit in Tel Aviv ŠKODA AUTO a.s. CEO Mr Bernhard Maier announced: “Chakratec is another exciting example: this start-up has developed the first kinetic charging station. The technology absorbs peak loads in the power grid and makes it possible to operate ultra-fast charging stations even in remote locations. The ingenious thing about it is that it’s 100% mechanical, and so it does not require chemical batteries, making it particularly environmentally friendly. Soon, we will be launching the first charging station of its kind in Prague. And many others are in the pipeline.”

Chakratec provides an optimal solution for the EV charging eco-system, circumventing the problem of insufficient power in the grid at locations where fast charging is required. This is done by applying Chakratec’s Kinetic Power Booster (KPB) based on their unique and patented Kinetic Energy Storage system, which enables the deployment of fast and ultra-fast EV charging station anywhere, including locations with a weak grid.

Nir Zohar, Co-founder and Chief Customer Officer at Chakratec said “We are very proud to collaborate with an innovative automotive company such as ŠKODA AUTO a.s. and to bring our kinetic storage system to the growing EV Czech market. Our kinetic storage system provides practically an unlimited number of charge and discharge cycles – making the charging infrastructure both economic and environmental when comparing to chemical storage systems. Chakratec is ready and excited to be Boosting eMobility together with our new partner – ŠKODA AUTO a.s.”
